“I am Wendy Hannan, a parent whose life was forever changed by a medical emergency. My journey was one of fear, uncertainty, and ultimately gratitude, a journey that underscores why the work of CQShines is so vital.
It all began with a routine medical recommendation for my son, Mitch to undergo a tonsillectomy. Little did we know, this seemingly straightforward procedure would lead us down a path filled with unexpected challenges. Advised to travel from our home in Gladstone to Bundaberg for the surgery due to potential risks of the operation, I made the sacrifice for the well-being of Mitch. However, what awaited us upon our return to Gladstone was beyond anything we could have imagined.
Late one night, Mitch began to bleed, triggering a frantic rush to the emergency room. The scene we encountered was chaotic, with medical staff doing their utmost to stop the bleeding. The sense of helplessness was overwhelming. This harrowing experience shed light on the urgent need for better support and resources in our local medical facilities.
It is this reality that fuels my passion and commitment to raising funds for highly advanced innovative telehealth equipment in the operating theatres for Gladstone Hospital. Telehealth has the potential to bridge the gap, providing our local doctors with real-time support from experienced specialists, ensuring no other family faces the fear and helplessness we endured.
